MISSING YOU: My Daughter

My Journey of Grief, Grace & Growth

Welcome to my Grief Blog

February 1, 2020

My name is Sharon Cox-Steward.  I am the biological mother of three, stepmother of two, adoptive mother of two and foster mom to over 60 kids.  On September 1, 2015, my life changed forever when my 27 year old biological, beautiful and talented daughter, Shatoya, gained her wings.  My life is forever changed.  I became a member of a club that inducts members involuntarily, a club that NOBODY wants to join.  I am a bereaved parent.

I don't claim to be a professional, though if grieving for multiple years makes you an expert, then I can speak on grieving.  I am also a Certified Grief Counselor, having used my experience of losing a child to seek education to assist others in this grief journey.

I don't think anyone imagines losing a child, it's just out of order for what we expect for life experiences. We expect to bury our parents, not our children.  It is indeed the most difficult challenge I have ever experienced.
